    "A New Testament Church
    For A New millennium Age"

Modeling the message of the ages for the modern millennium man.

  • Our Pastor
  • Pastor John D. Kelly, II was born in Detroit, Michigan to loving Christian parents, who raised him and his younger brother in the ways of the Lord. He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. His parent’s home was the bedrock for learning many important spiritual qualities such as honesty, hard work, respect, love, kindness and loyalty, which hold true today.
Serving as a Deacon for three years, under the leadership of his father and Pastor, John D. Kelly at Elyton Baptist Church, further taught him the roles and responsibilities of a Christian man. Three years later, he was ordained to preach the gospel. Obedient to answer the call of God put on his life, he was commissioned and licensed at Elyton Baptist Church, where he served diligently on the ministerial staff.
In November 1999, Pastor Kelly united with Second Canaan as associate minister. Though, a well-versed man in Christian education, members were astonished by his ability to recapture God’s instructions according to the scriptures. He later accepted a request to become Assistant Pastor, and on October 27, 2002, after the loss of its devoted Pastor and Founder, Dr. David L. Kelley, Sr., the members of Second Canaan appointed Reverend John D. Kelly, II as Pastor.

Pastor Kelly attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication.

  • Minister Bio
  • Minister Paul Murrell
Minister Murrell was born in Detroit and has been a part of the Second Canaan Church family since birth. He comes from a family with a talented musical background and is a percussionist, who renders his gifts for the good of the Lord. Realizing he could have a one-on-one relationship with God was a defining moment in his life. At the age of 22, he was called to preach the Gospel and is a young, tenacious gentleman in his walk with the Lord. It is important to him that he set an example for others as a Christian man. Spiritually, he firmly acknowledges “There’s no greater hero to me than Christ.” Minister Herring proclaims, “When I think about the goodness of Jesus and all that he has done for me, my soul cries out, I just want to do your will.” “Very few people have his combination of humility and maturity. He is a young man of great character,” says Pastor Kelly. Minister Herring is currently a seminary student, who works diligently with the youth to encourage and motivate them in their Christian walk.
